For your tropical beach wedding to be legal in your own country, there are two different approaches you could take.
1) Visit a registry office in your own country before you leave home, to make everything legal and binding first, before holding a wedding blessing or ceremony on the beach in Thailand.
2) Register for marriage in Thailand which will require 2-3 days in Bangkok first, visiting embassies and filling out the necessary paperwork.

Step-by-Step Guide to Marriage in Thailand
STEP 1. Letter of Certification to Marry in Thailand
You must obtain a Certificated Letter to Marry in Thailand from your Country's Embassy in Bangkok.
For example, UK citizens require an 'Affirmation of Freedom to Marry' and Australian/New Zealand citizens require a 'Statutory declaration'.
We advise you to contact your own embassy in Bangkok to find out the exact documents and procedure required.
STEP 2: Have the Letter of Certification Translated into Thai.
You must have your certificated letter translated into Thai by an authorized translator. Your embassy will not carry out this service on your behalf, but there are a number of reputable companies close by to the embassy that perform this service.
STEP 3: Authentication of Letter of Certification and Thai translation certification .
All Thai Registrars will require authentication of your Letter of Certification from your embassy and certification of the Thai translation.

STEP 4: Submit the document to the Registrar
You will then need to submit your Letter of Certification and Translation to the registrar in Phuket (also known as Amphur), who will register the marriage and issue a Thai marriage certificate.
STEP 5: The Wedding Ceremony.
On the day of your wedding, an officer from the local district office will come to the hotel and present you with a Thai language copy of your marriage certificate and complete the registration process.
STEP 6: Translation of Wedding Certificate into English Language
You will need to visit an authorized translator again to get the marriage certificate translated into English.
STEP 7: Authentication of Wedding Certificate
The final step to becoming legally married in your own country and for you to be able to use your Thai Wedding Certificate for legal purposes back home, is to get a rubber stamp on the wedding Certificate.

You may then visit your country's Embassy in Bangkok to have your Thai marriage certificate registered with your country's authorities. However, this is not a legal obligation.
