“Beautiful resort, great location, so-so food”

Booked this resort after doing much research on the internet. The hotel itself is lovely – well situated right across the street from Karon Beach and close to shopping and many restaurants. The hotel has 5 swimming pools and really beautiful grounds – very expansive with lots of well kept greenery and many statues throughout. We had adjoining rooms to accommodate our family of 4 – 2 children plus ourselves. We stayed in the Plumeria section which is very close to the main reception area. We had balconies overlooking the pool and you could just see the sunset from the corner of the balcony. Rooms are spacious, beds are rock hard (but seems to be common throughout Thailand). The rooms have been recently renovated and are bright with white tile floors and adequate seating. A small mini bar with complimentary tea and coffee and 2 bottles of water per day were also included. Because we had booked direct with the hotel we had the added bonus of a free mini bar (in both rooms) for the duration of our stay. This was a very nice added perk as we had beer every afternoon and juice for the kids. There are also a small selection of snacks (cookies, nuts, chocolate) that was replenished daily. We also had a small amount of fresh fruit in the room daily. Linens are of good quality and the shower was hot (not always the case). Internet was also included and was relatively good – it could be accessed anywhere in the hotel and on the grounds. Breakfast (included) was adequate at best. Although there was a huge variety of food, it reminded me of a low quality feeding trough – none of the food was particularly good and the restaurant staff were quite miserable. They never seemed to be able to keep up with the flow of guests (despite there being many of them around) so we found we were often sitting at a dirty table (we tend to eat later in the morning) and had to ask to have the table cleaned and reset for us. They provide western and Asian foods and eggs made to order but like I mentioned,it wasn’t of high quality and we actually skipped breakfast on several occasions as we simply couldn’t stand the thought of going down to the breakfast area. The restaurant staff were the only ones who didn’t seem to enjoy their jobs – we had excellent service from our housekeeper, the grounds people were very friendly, front desk and the manager were all excellent. Even the lady who sat at the transportation table (not hotel staff) was lovely to deal with so I am not sure why the restaurant staff were so miserable. The hotel has a number of resident animals including bunnies, miniature thai chickens, tortoises and doves. Each day the kids were eager to find out where they were on the grounds and spent some time petting them and feeding them. The keepers are very friendly and eager to help you get the bird on your shoulder or catch a bunny for you to hold. Security is good and they have guards who will help you cross the street to the beach. There are several restaurants on the property including a coffee bar, swim up bar, Italian, Mexican and “fine” Thai dining. We only ate at the Italian place once (lunch) and while the pizza was ok, it was overall quite expensive to eat here. We actually enjoyed the street food much better. All in all we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it but caution you for the breakfast. It’s an hour+ from the airport but the hotel will arrange transportation for you. It’s also a 20 min tuk tuk ride to Patong Beach.

Room Tip: The plumeria wing has renovated rooms. Book online direct with the hotel and get use of the mini bar.
