Get ready for the 3rd Annual Kathu Cultural Street Festival to be held from the 15-17th July 2011. This 3 day event celebrates the Chinese heritage of Phuket and aims to preserve the traditions and culture of the island’s long and culturally mixed history. The centre point of the festival will be Kathu shrine, spanning down Wichit Songkram road where there will be parades, performances, competitions and games everyday from 5-10pm.
Previous years have showcased Chinese opera and acrobatic performances, elaborate traditional Chinese costumes and painted faces, vintage cars, street vendors selling a variety of souvenirs and OTOP products and of course lots of delicious Thai food !
Kathu is located approximately half way between Phuket town and Patong, it has historical importance as it was the centre of the tin mining industry in Phuket and is home to the recently new phuket tin mining museum. So if you are in Phuket why not check it out, who would have guessed there to be such a wealth of culture and history only 10minutes drive away from Patong ?
